Shouldn't we just admit the obvious--that the New Testament call to discipleship, compassion, and giving leaves no room for the way many of us are thinking and living? Is it time to get beyond the theoretical stance of 'I'd be willing to give up anything if God asked me to,' and start actually giving up things in order to do what He's commanded us?

Randy Alcorn, in his book "Money, Possessions, and Eternity," challenges readers to confront the gap between the teachings of the New Testament on discipleship, compassion, and generosity, and the reality of many people's lives. He argues that it's time to recognize that the theoretical willingness to sacrifice for God often falls short of actual action.

Alcorn advocates for an authentic commitment to living out these biblical principles by genuinely relinquishing our possessions and comforts to fulfill God's commands. He emphasizes that faith must translate into tangible acts of giving and serving, urging a shift from mere intentions to concrete actions that reflect true discipleship.
