He lowered her arm to her side carefully and frowned. "No one else saw," he muttered. "You did!" "What was I to do?" he countered defensively. "Leave you be?" "No," she moaned. He took her chin in his hand and forced her to look at him. "I tended you as best I knew how," he said roughly. "I wasn't about to leave you to some addle-witted leech.
