From my point of view, we have the two communities: the tech community on one side and the rather social-scientific, philosophical community on the other side. We have, from my impression, a disconnect between the two sides.
This quote highlights a common challenge in interdisciplinary collaboration: the siloing of specialized communities. The tech community often focuses on technical innovation and quantitative metrics, while the social sciences and philosophy devote attention to human behavior, ethics, and qualitative insights. Bridging this gap requires deliberate communication and mutual understanding to leverage the strengths of each field. When these communities work in isolation, valuable perspectives are lost, potentially leading to misaligned goals or unethical applications of technology. Fostering dialogue and collaboration across these boundaries can lead to more holistic solutions that are both innovative and ethically sound.
