I am never proud to participate in violence, yet, I know that each of us must care enough for ourselves, that we can be ready and able to come to our own defense when and wherever needed.

I am never proud to take part in violence, as I believe it is inherently wrong. However, I understand that sometimes, for survival or self-defense, we must be prepared to protect ourselves. Being equipped for such situations is a necessary part of caring for our own well-being.

In Maya Angelou's Letter to My Daughter, she emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and readiness. She acknowledges the harsh realities of life, but also encourages resilience and personal responsibility in defending oneself when circumstances demand it.
