I think it's a hesitant book and at the same time bold. A text both private and public. On the one hand it springs from my other books. The themes, ultimately, are unchanged: identity, alienation, belonging. But the wrapping, the contents, the body and soul are transfigured.

In her book "In Other Words," Jhumpa Lahiri expresses that her writing reflects a blend of hesitance and boldness. This duality showcases her introspective journey while simultaneously addressing universal themes such as identity, alienation, and belonging. The work emerges from her previous writings but takes on a new form, emphasizing her evolution as an author.

Lahiri emphasizes that while the fundamental topics remain consistent, the way they are presented has transformed significantly. The essence of the book transcends mere storytelling, offering an intimate look into her experiences and thoughts, making it both a personal and a public exploration of the human condition.
