In some evolving civilizations, for reasons which we don't entirely understand, the evolution of consciousness is attended by a disaster of some sort which occurs shortly after the breakthrough. It has something to do with the discovery of the self and the incapacity to deal with it, the consciousness becoming self-conscious but not knowing what to do with the self, not even knowing what its self is, and so ending by being that which is not, and making others what they are not.

In the evolution of certain civilizations, there appears to be a pattern where significant breakthroughs in consciousness are followed by a catastrophic event. This phenomenon may stem from the newfound awareness of self; individuals become self-conscious but struggle to understand or integrate this self-awareness into their lives. The confusion surrounding the nature of self often leads to a disconnection from reality and from others.

This disorientation can result in individuals becoming not just disconnected from their true selves but also influencing others in a similar manner, causing a collective loss of authenticity. The dilemma lies in the inability to navigate the complexities of self-awareness, ultimately leading societies to confront their existential crises in the wake of newfound consciousness.
