C.G. Jung, in "Modern Man in Search of a Soul," suggests that the development of human consciousness has brought about the complexity of problems we face today. He views these challenges as an ambiguous byproduct of civilization, indicative of our cognitive evolution.

Jung argues that as humans have distanced themselves from their instinctual roots, consciousness emerged. This separation from instinct has led to a more reflective and analytical way of thinking, but it also introduces conflicts and dilemmas that stem from this newfound awareness.
