We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must - at that moment - become the center of the universe.

Elie Wiesel emphasizes the necessity of taking a stance in the face of injustice. He asserts that remaining neutral does not aid victims but instead supports oppressors and allows their actions to continue unchecked. Wiesel believes that when human rights are at risk, one cannot simply stand by; intervention is imperative.

He argues that borders or cultural sensitivities should not prevent action when lives are at stake. According to Wiesel, the plight of persecuted individuals due to race, religion, or political beliefs should be the primary focus, as these issues transcend geographical and societal boundaries, calling for immediate global attention and response.
