Years ago, my mentor, Mary Seals and I shared a mutual acquaintance who was successful in sales, but had a questionable reputation. I told her, "I really like him, but I can't trust him as far as I can throw him." Mary bluntly replied, "Susan, if I can't trust someone, I don't like or respect them.
Her comment caused me to reconsider always giving people the benefit of a doubt and to instead be wary when someone demonstrates a lack of integrity.
