Inmates undergo a unique seven-day, six-night training program focused on vacation etiquette. This includes practical lessons like reading speed-limit signs, parking correctly, managing alcohol consumption and disposal, and discreetly vomiting. Participants also learn to operate a Jet Ski and chew gum simultaneously, highlighting the humorous and unconventional approach of the training.
"The drill instructors would be selected from an elite pool of former Highway Patrol troopers, ex–Navy SEALs, and retired tour guides from Epcot," writes Carl Hiaasen, emphasizing the diverse and skilled backgrounds of the instructors guiding the inmates through this unusual curriculum. The program aims to prepare them for the quirks of vacation behavior in a lighthearted manner.
